Health minister Zahid Maleque attends a virtual discussion presided over by Family Welfare Division secretary M Ali Nur marking World Population Day this year .
The Directorate General of Family Planning under the health ministry’s Medical Education and Family Welfare Division held a virtual discussion marking World Population Day on Sunday.
The United Nations Population Fund observed the day this year with the theme: ‘rights and choices are the answer: whether baby boom or bust, the solution lies in prioritizing the reproductive health and rights of all people.’
Health minister Zahid Maleque was the chief guest in the event, presided over by family welfare division secretary M Ali Nur.
Family welfare directorate director general Sahan Ara Banu delivered the welcome speech in the event, in which health services senior secretary Lokman Hossain Mian and Directorate General of Health Services director general Abul Basar M Khurshid Alam were special guests.
USAID-funded Shukhi Jibon project director and Pathfinder International senior country director Caroline Crosbie, UNFPA Bangladesh officer-in-charge Eiko Narita, Directorate General of Nursing and Midwifery director general Siddika Aktar and National Institute of Population Research and Training director general M Shahjahan also attended the event as guests.
