Like previous, this year also under the guidance of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and Directorate General of Health Services, Bureau of Health Education observed the World Health Day nationwide. The Day celebrates worldwide in recognition to the foundation of World Health Organization.
The World Health Organisation was founded on the principle that everyone in the world should be able to realise their right to the highest possible level of health. This year, the theme selected as ‘Universal Health Coverage: Everyone Everywhere’ and in Bangla ‘সার্বজনীন স্বাস্থ্য সুরক্ষা:সবার জন্য সর্বত্র’. An explanation of the theme is ensuring that everyone, everywhere can access essential quality health services without facing financial hardship.
The day’s programs were inaugurated at Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Saturday 7 April 2018 in Dhaka at 10:30am on Saturday. Meanwhile, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages on the occasion. All the messages from the key stakes published in a supplementary page of a national daily.
As a part of observation, Bureau of Health Education undertake a series of activities that includes Press briefing by the Hon’ble State Minister Mr. Zahid Malek, Talk Show on National Media anchoring by Dr. Bayzid Khurshid Riaz, Island Decoration, Rally on the Day, Souvenir publication etc. On the eve of the day, honourable Director General of DGHS said, “No one should have to choose between death and financial hardship. No one should have to choose between buying medicine and buying food.”
Universal health coverage has become a major goal for health reform in Bangladesh and is also a priority objective of the WHO.
